Ben Godfrey Joins Rangers on Loan with Option to Buy

Rangers have completed the signing of Atalanta defender Ben Godfrey on a season-long loan with an option to buy, making him the club's third addition of the summer transfer window. The 28-year-old English centre-back expressed his excitement about joining the Scottish giants, stating he is determined to help Derek McInnes' side secure silverware.

Godfrey's Journey to Rangers

Godfrey, who previously spent time on loan at Danish club Brondby from Serie A side Atalanta, has now been secured by Rangers after Record Sport first revealed the club's interest at the weekend. The defender has signed a year-long loan deal that includes an option for a permanent transfer, following the arrivals of Lawrence Shankland and Ross McCrorie earlier this summer.

Speaking about his move, Godfrey said: "I am buzzing, I am really happy to be here. I know the size of the club so it is a massive honour to be wearing the shirt this season, and I can’t wait to get started. I am looking forward to meeting the boys and hopefully helping this club achieve what it deserves, which is silverware and exciting times."

Manager's Praise for New Signing

Rangers boss Derek McInnes welcomed Godfrey's arrival, highlighting the defender's experience at the highest levels of the game. "Ben is a player who has competed at a very high level throughout his career. He’s played in the Premier League, been involved with England, and brings a lot of experience with him," McInnes said. "He’s a strong, athletic defender with good qualities both on and off the ball, and we believe he can add a lot to the squad. We’re pleased to get him in, and I’m looking forward to working with him in the season ahead."

Impact on Rangers' Squad

Godfrey's arrival bolsters Rangers' defensive options as they aim to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title. The former Norwich City and Everton player, who has also represented England at youth levels, brings Premier League and Serie A experience to Ibrox. His athleticism and ball-playing abilities are expected to complement the existing defensive unit under McInnes' guidance.
