Harry Kane scored twice on Wednesday evening to save England from a humiliating World Cup exit against DR Congo. The Three Lions were on the brink of elimination after Brian Cipenga's first-half strike, but Kane's double turned the game around.
Kane's Heroics
For long periods, England struggled to break down a resolute DR Congo defence. Thomas Tuchel's side huffed and puffed without reward, and Cipenga's goal left them staring at an early tournament exit. However, Kane took centre stage in the final minutes.
The Bayern Munich striker powered home a header after excellent work from Anthony Gordon to level the score. Minutes later, he fired past the otherwise inspired Lionel Mpesi to secure a dramatic victory.
Support from Miss BumBum
Kane received support from an unexpected source: Miss BumBum Suzy Cortez. A devoted Lionel Messi fan, Suzy usually reserves her allegiance for the Argentine star. But she made an exception for England's captain.
Suzy told Daily Star Sport: "Another player I will be supporting is Harry Kane! I have a strong connection with England, where I lived for many years and a country I deeply admire. I also believe he remains one of the best strikers in the world!"
She also expressed a desire to see Kane at Barcelona: "I would love to see him wearing a Barcelona shirt in the future."
Upcoming Match and Split Loyalties
England next face co-hosts Mexico at the Estadio Azteca, a tricky trip to altitude. Suzy admitted she will also be cheering for Mexican striker Raúl Jiménez: "I will also be cheering for Raúl Jiménez. I have a special affection for Mexico and I support Club América, so I always pay close attention to Mexican players!"
However, her main support remains with Argentina and Messi: "Regardless of my individual preferences, my main support will be for Lionel Messi and the Argentine national team, which I believe will win another World Cup title."
Suzy's World Cup Plans
Despite being born in Brazil, Suzy holds British citizenship and identifies more with Argentine football. She has promised her "most creative and surprising coverage yet" for the World Cup, including customised jerseys, bodysuits, jackets, sportswear sets, themed dresses, accessories, flags, scarves, and bikinis inspired by the teams she supports.
"I want every look to tell a story and reflect the energy of each match. I’m bringing three suitcases filled exclusively with outfits and accessories for the World Cup in the United States!" she added.
