Raducanu Hints at Retirement Before Wimbledon, Eyes Finance

Emma Raducanu has set a retirement timeframe, planning to step away from professional tennis in approximately 10 years, despite being only 23. The 2021 US Open champion, who burst onto the scene at 18, has endured a rollercoaster career with injury setbacks and coaching changes. However, after reaching the final at Queen's earlier this month, she enters Wimbledon with renewed confidence.

Raducanu's Retirement Plans

In an interview with Grazia, Raducanu stated: "I'll probably be retiring and hopefully proud of the career I've had in tennis, but also extremely excited for another career. I know tennis is one chapter of my life, and it's such a huge part of my current identity, but I have a lot more than just tennis ahead of me. I can't wait to delve into another chapter, and to think that my life really starts in my thirties is exciting, even though I will have had a whole tennis career by then."

Raducanu has hinted at a career in finance after tennis. Speaking after signing a partnership with HSBC, she explained: "To partner with HSBC is so natural for me having grown up playing in the HSBC Road to Wimbledon and having been a customer for many years. If I wasn't a tennis player, I would definitely want to work in finance so I'm excited to learn more about the industry in the years to come. We are working on some really cool ideas and I'm particularly looking forward to working on initiatives that help young people, such as financial education, but watch this space."

Wimbledon 2026 Ambitions

For now, Raducanu's focus is on Wimbledon, where she aims to improve on her third-round appearance in 2025. After struggling with injuries earlier this year, defending her ranking points from the 2025 Championships is crucial for her WTA standings. The 2026 Wimbledon tournament is underway, and Raducanu is determined to make an impact.
