Yan Diomande has selected Paris Saint-Germain as his preferred next club, turning down transfer interest from Liverpool. The RB Leipzig winger, currently representing Ivory Coast at the World Cup, has been a key figure in the transfer window as Liverpool, under new manager Andoni Iraola, seek to replace departing Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool's pursuit rejected
Diomande's pace, vision, and ability to play on either flank made him an attractive target for Liverpool. The Reds have long admired the 19-year-old, who recorded 20 goal contributions in 33 Bundesliga appearances last season. Earlier this month, Liverpool saw a nine-figure bid for the Ivorian rejected, with Leipzig aiming for a fee of around €130 million (£112 million).
PSG's appeal
According to reports in The Athletic, Diomande has chosen the back-to-back European champions as his next club should he leave Leipzig this summer. The teenager has been swayed by PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi's project and is eager to play under head coach Luis Enrique. Diomande also believes he will have more opportunities to compete for silverware regularly in Paris. PSG currently hold the Champions League title after defeating Arsenal in the final in May to successfully defend their crown.
Leipzig's stance
Leipzig remain keen to retain Diomande and are reportedly working on an improved contract to keep him in Germany. However, if he departs, he would become the club's record sale, surpassing any previous transfer fee received.
Impact on Liverpool
Diomande's decision is an early setback for Iraola's transfer planning. However, the Spaniard has been proactive in the window, already adding another winger to his squad with the signing of fellow countryman Victor Munoz.
