Trent Alexander-Arnold's dream move to Real Madrid has not gone according to plan, but a sensational transfer to Arsenal or a return to Liverpool could revitalise the 27-year-old's career this summer.
Former England forward Teddy Sheringham believes a move to Arsenal is possible. Alexander-Arnold left Liverpool last year with high hopes of becoming a regular starter for Los Blancos, but has struggled with injuries and inconsistent performances. He lost out in his battle to dislodge veteran Dani Carvajal and was left out of Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad.
Challenges at Real Madrid
Carvajal's imminent exit seemed to offer Alexander-Arnold hope, but his situation worsened with the arrival of Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries and the appointment of Jose Mourinho as manager. Arsenal, meanwhile, may need a new right-back after injuries to Ben White and Jurrien Timber last season.
Sheringham's Analysis
Sheringham told BOYLE Sports: "Liverpool fans might not want him back, so it narrows down where he could go. He doesn't strike me as an Arsenal player, but they could make it work. If you put Trent in an organised back four, he could improve and give Arsenal an extra dimension."
Alexander-Arnold left Liverpool with two Premier League titles, the Champions League, and other trophies, but had a silverware-free debut season in Madrid. He has since posted on Instagram: "Madridistas, you have welcomed me with open arms. I will put in the work over the summer and promise to bring trophies back next season."
