Rasmus Hojlund has delivered a brutally honest six-word assessment of his decision to leave Manchester United, following his first taste of silverware with new club Napoli.
From Old Trafford Struggle to Naples Success
The Danish striker, who joined the Serie A giants on summer transfer deadline day, helped Napoli secure the Supercoppa Italiana on Monday night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A brace from David Neres sealed a 2-0 victory over Bologna, with Hojlund playing the full 90 minutes of the final.
After the match, the 22-year-old took to Instagram, posting a photo of himself beaming with the trophy. His caption was succinct and telling: "What a great decision looks like."
A Fresh Start After United Stint
Hojlund's move to Italy marks a return to the league where he first made his name with Atalanta. His form there prompted Manchester United to pay an initial £64 million for him in the summer of 2023. However, his two seasons at Old Trafford were challenging.
He managed 26 goals and six assists in 95 appearances for the Red Devils, but found opportunities limited last term under manager Ruben Amorim, scoring just four Premier League goals. With United investing heavily in a new attacking line-up featuring Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko, Hojlund's future playing time looked uncertain.
Loan Deal and Permanent Option
The deadline day move to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium has already borne fruit. Hojlund has made 19 appearances across all competitions this term, contributing to 10 goals.
Manchester United agreed to a loan package that includes a €6 million fee, with Napoli holding a €44 million option to buy the striker permanently at the season's end. If his current form and newfound silverware are anything to go by, the Italian club may be keen to trigger that clause.
