Former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Paul Ince has advised in-form Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo to resist a January transfer and wait until the summer before considering a big-money move.
Top Four Finish Could Decide Transfer Race
Ince believes the battle for the Ghana international's signature between his two former clubs could be decided by which one secures a place in the Premier League's top four and the promise of Champions League football next season. Semenyo, 25, has been directly involved in 26 Premier League goals this campaign, scoring 18 and providing eight assists under manager Andoni Iraola.
"I was surprised that Liverpool or Manchester United didn't sign Antoine Semenyo at the start of the season, because he's a top player," Ince told Covers.com. "He should wait until the summer transfer window to make a move; January isn't a great time."
Release Clause and Liverpool's Interest
The player's outstanding form has sparked intense speculation of a mid-season departure, with a reported £65 million release clause in his contract. Liverpool's interest comes at a time of uncertainty in their forward line, with Mohamed Salah's future unclear and Cody Gakpo sidelined by injury.
Manchester United, level on points with Liverpool in the table, have also been linked with a move. Ince added, "In terms of whether he'll move to Liverpool or Man Utd, it depends on which one will finish in the top four... If I were in his position, I'd stay put at Bournemouth until the end of the season."
Iraola on Semenyo's Handling of Speculation
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has provided insight into how his star player is coping with the constant rumours. "Obviously, when you hear your name every day in the news, you have to deal with these situations," Iraola said. "But I think he's committed and I haven't seen a lot of changes in him."
Despite the advice to stay, Ince does not expect Semenyo to remain at the Vitality Stadium long-term, describing Bournemouth as a club that has "always been a selling club." He praised the winger's all-round ability, noting his strength, pace, and proficiency with both feet.
