Man Utd target Baleba held private talks with Fernandes

Manchester United target Carlos Baleba reportedly held private talks with Bruno Fernandes and other United players about a potential move to Old Trafford. The Brighton midfielder, who was linked with a £100 million switch last summer, approached Fernandes after the final Premier League match of the season.

Baleba's discussions with United stars

According to reports, the 22-year-old Cameroonian spoke with Fernandes following Manchester United's dominant 3-0 victory at the Amex Stadium. Baleba also sought out Matheus Cunha, who was an unused substitute, and the pair had a lengthy conversation by the tunnel. Cunha joined United last summer as part of a £200 million investment in the club's frontline.

Baleba has existing connections with several current United squad members. He played alongside defender Leny Yoro during their time at Lille and is close with compatriot Bryan Mbeumo. Additionally, fellow Cameroon international Andre Onana encouraged Baleba to pursue a move to Manchester last year before his loan switch to Trabzonspor.

United's midfield pursuit

Manchester United are actively seeking central midfielders and have already agreed a £35 million deal for Atalanta's Ederson. However, they remain interested in Baleba, who joined Brighton for £23 million. The Seagulls could make a significant profit on the player, similar to the £115 million they received from Chelsea for Moises Caicedo.

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler acknowledged that United's failed attempt to sign Baleba last summer affected the midfielder's performances. "For sure, when a young boy reads there is interest from Manchester United with a big, big offer, it might affect him deep down," Hurzeler said. "That's also part of the development to understand that when you play well, there comes a big offer, there comes a big club who wants to have him. But then to keep pushing, to be humble, stay here in Brighton, and try to make the next step with the team."

United's interest in Baleba could reignite as they look to strengthen their midfield options ahead of the new season.
