Manchester United academy graduate Toby Collyer is on the verge of a fresh loan move to Hull City, despite having only just returned to Old Trafford earlier this month.
Disappointing Spell at The Hawthorns
The 22-year-old midfielder's initial loan to Championship side West Bromwich Albion in August was intended to provide valuable first-team experience. However, his time at the Baggies was severely disrupted by injuries, limiting him to just 12 appearances, with only three of those being starts.
This prompted Manchester United to activate a recall clause, officially bringing Collyer back to the club on January 10th, 2026. A club statement at the time cited a focus on his recovery and the potential to bolster the midfield options for then-manager Ruben Amorim.
Immediate Return to the Championship
Instead of remaining with United, Collyer now looks set for an immediate return to the second tier. According to reports, he is finalising a loan switch to Hull City until the end of the current season.
The Tigers, who currently sit seventh in the Championship table after a strong start, could see Collyer as a useful addition for their promotion push. His debut is unlikely to come in this weekend's FA Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers, but a potential bow against Southampton next weekend is a possibility if the deal is completed swiftly.
Future at Manchester United
Collyer remains under contract with the Red Devils until 2027 and has made 13 senior appearances for the club in total. His situation highlights the broader squad decisions facing United, particularly following the departure of manager Ruben Amorim.
Former boss Amorim gave an enigmatic assessment of Collyer's path earlier this season, suggesting the player's lack of game time was down to circumstance rather than a lack of talent from the academy.
With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in talks for an interim managerial role, further decisions on the futures of several United players, including Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee, are expected in the coming days.
