Hojlund's Man Utd exit a 'formality' as Napoli chief confirms permanent transfer
Napoli chief confirms Hojlund's permanent Man Utd exit

Rasmus Hojlund's departure from Manchester United is now effectively sealed, with a permanent transfer to Napoli described as a mere 'formality' by a senior club official.

The Deal is All But Done

Napoli's sporting director, Giovanni Manna, has publicly stated that both the player and the Italian club consider the move a done deal. Hojlund, 22, joined Napoli on a season-long loan from United in the summer of 2025.

The agreement includes an option to buy for €50m (£43.6m). This clause will become an obligation to purchase if Napoli secures qualification for the Champions League at the end of the current campaign.

"The player considers himself a Napoli player, and the same goes for us. This is extremely important," Manna told Corriere dello Sport. When asked if the permanent switch was now a formality, he replied: "As of today, I think so."

Contract Details and Release Clause

Reports from Italy suggest Napoli are already drafting the paperwork for Hojlund's long-term contract. It is believed the deal will include a substantial release clause set at €85m (£74.2m).

This clause is reportedly scheduled to become active in the summer of 2027, protecting Napoli's asset while outlining his future market value.

Manna emphasised the club's determination to sign the Danish striker, revealing his personal desire to join was crucial. "We did everything we could to sign him. There were more storied clubs interested, but his will was crucial, and we are proud of it," he said.

Conte's Praise and Hojlund's Form

Napoli manager Antonio Conte has been full of praise for the young forward's development since his arrival. Hojlund has scored seven goals in 19 appearances for the Serie A side this season.

"He is a player who is very young, he's still only 22 years old, and can improve a great deal," Conte said. "Since he first joined us, he has already progressed to become a dominant player in that role... he has huge margin for further improvement."

Hojlund's move brings his two-season stint at Old Trafford to an end. He joined United from Atalanta in 2023, scoring 16 goals in his debut campaign and adding a further ten in his second season, though only four of those came in the Premier League.

His successful loan spell in Naples now paves the way for a fresh start in Italy, with the formalities of the transfer expected to be completed imminently.
