British GP LEGO Parade Confirmed After Hamilton Boycott Fears

The LEGO drivers' parade at the British Grand Prix is set to go ahead as planned with all 22 Formula 1 stars taking part, bosses have confirmed to Express Sport. This comes despite Lewis Hamilton telling reporters at Silverstone yesterday that he might not participate, citing safety concerns and commercial obligations.

Hamilton and Verstappen Express Reservations

Hamilton cast doubt over his participation during the FIA press conference, stating: "It's the most dangerous part of the weekend... I don't know whether or not I will be in the LEGO car this year." Max Verstappen also criticized the stunt, saying it would make F1 drivers "look like kids and clowns." Their negative responses prompted what sources described as 'crisis talks' in the paddock to address the situation.

Crisis Talks and Resolution

Express Sport learned that meetings were held with F1 and LEGO bosses, as well as management for both drivers. Ferrari quickly confirmed Hamilton would take part, with reports linking his reluctance to complaints about unpaid commercial engagements. After discussions, both Hamilton and Verstappen have no problems with participating. The parade will proceed two hours before Sunday's Grand Prix.

Positive Reactions from Other Drivers

Most other drivers have embraced the event enthusiastically. Defending champion Lando Norris said he was "pretty excited" to drive the McLaren minicar, adding: "I think it's nice to do something different every now and then. So as long as it's safe and we all behave, which we shall, then it will be a jolly good ride." Championship leader Kimi Antonelli predicted "absolute carnage" as drivers inevitably collide, with sweepers set to follow the brick cars to clear debris.

Background of the LEGO Parade

The parade first took place in Miami last year, featuring 10 life-sized F1 cars built from thousands of LEGO bricks. Drivers shared two-seater cars with teammates, thoroughly enjoying the experience despite causing significant damage. The event generated billions of social media engagements and received overwhelmingly positive fan feedback. This year, LEGO has built 22 new 'minicars' for the repeat, scheduled for Sunday.
