World Cup Knockout Fixtures: England Face DR Congo, Full Last-32 Schedule
World Cup Knockout Fixtures: England Face DR Congo

The World Cup knockout stage is set after the group phase concluded in the early hours of Sunday morning. Of the 48 teams that began the tournament in North America, 32 remain and will compete in the last-32 round to determine the round of 16.

England Secure Top Spot, Face DR Congo

England topped their group with a win over Panama on Saturday night, thanks to a goal from Jude Bellingham. Thomas Tuchel's side will now face DR Congo on Wednesday at 5pm UK time in the first knockout round.

Scotland Eliminated

Scotland's campaign ended after a 1-0 win over Haiti was followed by defeats to Morocco and Brazil. Their three points and minus three goal difference were insufficient to advance.

Perfect Records for France, Argentina, Mexico

Three teams emerged from the group stage with a 100 per cent record. France, pre-tournament favourites, won all three group matches and will play Sweden. Argentina also secured maximum points and face surprise package Cape Verde. Mexico, the third side with a perfect record, will play Ecuador.

Co-Hosts Progress

All three co-hosts advanced: the USA topped their group and will play Bosnia-Herzegovina, while Canada finished second behind Switzerland and kick off the last-32 against South Africa on Sunday at 8pm UK time.

Other Favourites

Brazil won two and drew one to top their group, setting up a match against Japan. Spain face Austria. The Netherlands impressed in winning their group, while Germany secured top spot with a game to spare. Portugal finished second to Colombia and will play Croatia. Norway, tipped as dark horses with Erling Haaland, face the Ivory Coast, one of several teams reaching the knockout stage for the first time.
