Four in Five Recruiters Now Use AI in Hiring, Sparking Candidate Concerns
AI Dominates Recruitment: 83% of Recruiters Adopt Technology

New research has uncovered a significant shift in the recruitment landscape, with four in five hiring managers now incorporating artificial intelligence at some stage of the hiring process. The study indicates that 83 per cent of recruiters are utilising AI tools to streamline and accelerate their search for candidates.

Candidate Distrust and Fairness Concerns

However, this technological adoption is not without controversy. A substantial 53 per cent of job seekers believe their applications are being automatically rejected by AI systems without any human oversight, leading to widespread distrust in the recruitment process. Furthermore, 63 per cent of candidates surveyed feel that AI-led recruitment is less fair compared to traditional human judgment.

Some applicants have described their experiences with AI-driven systems as "alienating", highlighting a growing disconnect between technology and the human touch in hiring.

Reciprocal AI Trend Among Employers

The research also identifies a reciprocal trend on the employer side. Nearly 80 per cent of employers report a significant surge in AI-generated job applications over the past year, complicating the recruitment landscape further.

This dual increase in AI usage—both by recruiters and applicants—creates a complex dynamic where technology is reshaping how jobs are sought and filled.

Expert Warnings Against Over-Reliance

Industry experts are cautioning against an over-reliance on artificial intelligence in recruitment. They suggest that AI should be used to support human intuition and decision-making rather than replace it entirely.

This warning comes at a critical time as job competition intensifies across various sectors, making fair and effective hiring practices more important than ever.

The findings underscore the need for balanced approaches that leverage technology while maintaining human oversight to ensure fairness and transparency in recruitment processes.
