King Charles has expressed deep concern over the radicalisation of young people in Britain, partly blaming the internet for the trend. In an interview with BBC Radio 2's Sunday Hour, he described the extent of radicalisation as 'alarming' and noted that many young people are drawn to extremist groups through online contact.
The King highlighted the role of the internet as 'the frightening part', while also acknowledging that some radicalisation stems from a search for adventure and excitement at a particular age. He questioned how individuals born and educated in Britain could abandon the values the country holds dear.
Discussing his future role as Defender of the Faith, the King indicated he would maintain the title but also serve as a 'protector' of all faiths in multicultural Britain. He emphasised the importance of inclusion and freedom of worship for all religious groups.
The King also voiced deep concerns for Christians in the Middle East, warning that their numbers could dwindle significantly. He called for greater efforts to build bridges between faiths, despite setbacks and discouragement.
