A man has sparked debate on TikTok after claiming his grandfather may have been a time traveller, based on an unusual detail in a 1940s World War II photograph. The user, known as Jimmy The Filmmaker, shared a video pointing out an object in his grandfather's hand that he believes resembles a modern iPhone.
The Viral TikTok Video
In the TikTok clip, which has garnered 16,000 likes, Jimmy says: "This is a picture of my grandpa George, during World War II. My brother and I were looking at it and we thought, was grandpa a time traveller? Because we're pretty sure that's an iPhone." The video zooms in on the object clutched in the grandfather's left hand, highlighting its rectangular shape and dark colour.
Plausible Explanations
However, viewers were quick to offer more rational explanations. One commenter suggested the object could be a mirror used for flashing morse code or for shaving. This theory seems plausible, as the grandfather, referred to as "Papa George," has a towel over his shoulder and is holding a can of water, indicating he may have been preparing to shave or signal.
Another user pointed out that the photo's quality and angle make it difficult to identify the object definitively, and that similar items like compact mirrors or cigarette cases were common during that era.
Time Travel Theories Online
Jimmy's video is the latest in a series of social media posts claiming to have found evidence of time travel. Previously, users have pointed out anachronisms in historical photos, such as modern clothing or technology, but most have been debunked with simple explanations.
Despite the scepticism, the video has sparked curiosity and amusement, with many viewers enjoying the playful speculation. The grandfather, if he were alive today, might have a good laugh at the theory.
