Astonishing footage has emerged capturing a humanoid robot engaging in playful activities with children in New York City, a scene that appears straight out of a science fiction movie. The video, shot at Brooklyn Bridge Park, shows a Unitree G1 robot sprinting through the green spaces while more than a dozen kids gleefully chase after it.
Robot Interaction in Public Park
In the surreal clip, the silver-and-black droid, standing approximately 4 feet 2 inches tall and weighing around 77 pounds, maintains perfect balance as it navigates the park at a brisk pace. Children can be seen surrounding the robot, touching and grabbing it during the playful encounter, yet the machine remains stable and controlled throughout the interaction.
Technical Specifications and Pricing
The Unitree G1 robot is designed for durability and mobility, capable of operating for up to two hours on a single charge. Priced at $13,500, it is one of several models offered by the company, which typically conducts demonstrations in controlled indoor environments such as trade shows or corporate facilities, according to industry sources like Humanoid Guide.
Public Reactions and Sci-Fi Fears
The footage has sparked a wave of mostly negative reactions online, with many viewers expressing terror and likening the scenario to dystopian films about AI takeovers. One social media user commented, "This is terrifying. NONE of them has seen Terminator OR any of those movies about AI Machines taking over. I’d hate to see this while I was out." Another added ominously, "In a few years, it will be chasing those kids," while a third noted, "The novelty is fading. The integration is beginning."
White House Robot Appearance
In a related development, humanoid robots have also made headlines in political settings. Recently, First Lady Melania Trump was introduced by a robot named Figure 3 at the White House during the Fostering the Future Together event on March 25. Accompanied by the uplifting music of John Williams' "Flight to Neverland," Melania entered the East Room alongside the white and black robot.
The robot, using a female-sounding voice, addressed the audience, saying, "Thank you, First Lady Melania Trump, for inviting me to the White House. It is an honor to be at Fostering the Future Together’s Global Coalition inaugural meeting." It identified itself as "Figure 3, a humanoid built in the United States of America," and expressed gratitude for being part of a historic movement to empower children through technology and education.
Figure 3 then welcomed attendees in 11 different languages before slowly walking around the rectangular table where the panel was speaking and departing down the White House's Cross Hall. Reflecting on the moment, Melania Trump highlighted its history-making nature, emphasizing the blend of technology and human interaction in modern events.
This dual showcase of robots in both public parks and formal settings underscores the growing integration of advanced robotics into everyday life, while simultaneously fueling debates about the ethical and societal implications of such technologies.
