Courts in the North East handed down sentences for serious crimes in July, including murder, manslaughter, and sexual offences. Several offenders received life sentences, with one gang of four murderers told they would serve at least 118 years behind bars for killing Andrew Foster during a spate of chemical attacks. Youssef Wynne, Kenneth Fawcett, John Wandless and Josh Hawthorn were convicted of murdering 26-year-old Mr Foster and were jailed for life.
In another case, Gavin Train, of Blakelaw, Newcastle, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 21 years for murder. He carried out a threat to put a young dad who robbed his brother in an early grave, stabbing Bradley Tams five days after issuing threats.
Homeless Graham Edmond was jailed for 13 months after spitting at one police officer and kicking another in the face during two separate arrests in South Tyneside. He also breached a restraining order banning him from contacting his ex-partner.
Steven Donaghey, 23, was sentenced to five years in prison and a further two years on an extended licence for attempted robbery. He followed a young woman through Newcastle, dragged her to the ground, and attacked her while wearing a balaclava.
Shane Taylor, 47, of Jarrow, was jailed for three years and four months for stalking his ex-partner. He subjected her to months of fear, following her in his car, hacking her email, and sending messages pretending to be her.
