Electric toothbrushes have become a staple in modern oral care, offering benefits such as improved plaque removal and gum health. According to Dr Hannan Imran, a dentist and clinic director, powered brushes are more effective than manual ones at reducing plaque and gingivitis, while pressure feedback helps prevent gum damage. Dr Edoardo Felici, an aesthetic dentist, recommends oscillating-rotating or sonic brushes with pressure sensors and timers.
The Oral-B iO3 electric toothbrush has been praised by both experts as a top choice. Dr Felici notes that it strikes a good balance between affordability and functionality, including essential features like pressure sensors and a timer. After hands-on testing over six months, the iO3 was found to offer high-tech performance at an accessible price, with cleaning abilities comparable to the more expensive Oral-B iO10.
The iO3 provides sensory cues for a thorough clean: it vibrates to indicate when to move to a different section of the mouth, and a pressure sensor light shows if brushing is too hard or too gentle. Additionally, the mode button turns amber to signal when the brush head needs replacing. While it lacks an LCD screen found on premium models like the iO6 and above, this does not detract from its effectiveness.
