Spotlight Oral Care’s sonic electric toothbrush has long been a top contender in the best electric toothbrush category, praised for its affordability, gentle brush heads, and impressive battery life. With the brand’s growing popularity—thanks to its acclaimed teeth whitening kit—we decided to put the device through a thorough 90-day test to see if it lives up to the hype.
The brush is designed by dentists Lisa and Vanessa Creavan, who founded Spotlight in response to cosmetic teeth whitening regulations in Ireland. The original sonic toothbrush (£77, Spotlightoralcare.com) offers three modes: sensitive, clean, and white. The white mode delivers 48,000 repetitions per minute, significantly higher than competitors like Suri (33,000rpm) and Ordo + (40,000rpm). During testing, the white mode provided a thorough clean without feeling harsh on gums, though users with sensitive gums may find it intense, especially as the brush lacks a pressure indicator.
The toothbrush features a simple, uncluttered design with a single large power button for easy operation. It is not app-enabled, which keeps it lightweight and easy to manoeuvre around the mouth. The battery life was impressive, lasting the full test period without needing a recharge. After 90 days of use, we observed a significant reduction in staining, aligning with the brand’s whitening focus.
Overall, the Spotlight Oral Care sonic toothbrush is a powerful, no-fuss option for those seeking effective cleaning and whitening benefits. While it may not suit very sensitive gums, its performance and price point make it a strong contender in the sonic toothbrush market.
