Momfluencer Maia Knight Opens Up About Social Media Regrets

Popular parenting influencer Maia Knight has publicly admitted she harbours significant regrets about how much of her children's lives she shared on social media during her early career. Knight rose to fame on TikTok almost five years ago by posting "day in the life" style videos as a single mother to her twin daughters, Violet and Scout.

A Shift in Content Strategy

However, Knight's approach has undergone a substantial transformation. She has progressively shifted her content focus away from her children, particularly after marrying her husband Jake last year and welcoming a baby son in July 2025. Her current content is more lifestyle-oriented and deliberately avoids showing her children's faces.

In a candid video posted recently, Knight told her followers it was "finally time for me to be honest" about her decision-making process. She addressed the specific question of why she has chosen to withhold her son's name from the public eye.

"I was kind of just, like, playing it by ear," she admitted regarding her initial pregnancy content. "Obviously, I ended up sharing the sex once I felt comfortable."

Protecting Family Privacy

Knight explained her reasoning for keeping her son's name private, directly linking it to the intense scrutiny and criticism that often accompanies online fame. "To go back to why I haven't shared my son's name, just the fact that there are so many people out there that get pissed off that I haven't shared his name is, like, exactly the reason why I haven't shared his name," she stated.

She elaborated further, noting the unique nature of the chosen name and her desire to shield her family from unnecessary judgement. "And also, I have a pretty thick skin now, but his name is very, very unique, and I love his name. Jake loves his name. I know if I shared it, it would get a lot of judgement, which is fine, but like I said, I'm in my protecting my peace era, and I just don't wanna deal with it."

Reflecting on Viral Fame and Regrets

Knight reflected on her rapid ascent to viral fame on TikTok, expressing gratitude for the opportunities it has afforded her. Despite the positive aspects, she was unequivocal about her misgivings. Looking back, she said she "obviously" has "regrets about how much I did share about my kids."

"I'm not even gonna get into that," she added, describing social media as a "beast" and confessing she has been feeling "pretty rough" about her past content. "I'm so desensitized to it now," Knight noted, highlighting the emotional toll of constant online exposure.

She offered a stark perspective on the reality of influencer life: "But as, like, a very normal person, you'd literally have to be crazy to not care about thousands of people s****ing on you all the time. Not much bothers me anymore."

Audience Support and Future Direction

The video concluded with Knight emphasising that her followers see only a tiny fraction of her real life and thanking them for their continued support as she transitions to creating more content that does not feature her children.

This shift has been met with widespread support from her audience. Many commenters praised her decision to prioritise family privacy and mental well-being.

  • One supporter wrote: "You were one of the first people I followed on TT and I love that you share your journey & changed your content to protect your own head space. I love it!"
  • Another agreed, commenting: "Proud of your growth and dedication to your real life. Social media and parasocial connections are fun, but I appreciate your grounded approach."

Knight's story underscores a growing conversation among parent influencers about the long-term implications of building a public brand around their children's lives and the personal boundaries required in the digital age.
