Freely, the free TV platform launched in 2024, has announced the introduction of Freely Spotlight Channels, a new feature designed to compete with established services like Sky and Freeview. The platform, which already reaches over one million UK households, will offer these additional channels at no extra cost, streamed entirely via Wi-Fi.
The Spotlight Channels will appear on channel 31 and channels 90 to 99 in the Freely TV guide. V (formerly VIDAA), the company behind the VIDAA OS smart TV platform used in Hisense televisions, has been confirmed as the launch partner. It will be the first to bring a curated selection of channels from its lineup to the Freely TV Guide.
According to Freely, these channels will sit alongside established UK broadcasters within the TV guide, giving selected channels greater visibility and added credibility within the UK’s regulated TV environment. No specific content has been confirmed yet, but more details are expected closer to launch.
Deep Halder, Chief Commercial Officer at Everyone TV, said: “As Freely continues to grow, we are focused on building a platform that delivers long-term value across the whole ecosystem. Allowing CTV OS partners to participate in specific parts of the TV guide enables us to create new opportunities for our partners, while staying true to our commitment to UK audiences by ensuring free, trusted TV remains easy to find in the streaming age.”
Freely is run by the same team behind Freeview and Freesat, but delivers all content through a broadband connection, removing the need for an aerial or satellite dish. The platform currently offers more than 50 live channels, on-demand content, personalised recommendations, a full TV guide, and the ability to pause live television.
