Sky TV Outage: Thousands Left Without Service, Compensation Update Issued

Thousands of Sky TV customers experienced a major service outage on Thursday evening, with many still facing issues on Friday morning. The disruption, first reported around 9pm, saw over 26,000 complaints logged on Downdetector by 10:30pm. As of Friday morning, approximately 2,500 customers remained affected.

A Sky spokesperson apologised for the inconvenience, stating: 'We're sorry some customers had trouble accessing Sky Q last night. The issue was quickly resolved, and service has been restored.' However, some users reported ongoing problems, with one customer saying: 'My SkyQ box comes on and after 2 minutes goes off to the blank screen saying no signal.'

Ofcom has advised affected customers to contact Sky directly regarding compensation. Sky will assess compensation on a case-by-case basis, meaning amounts may vary. One frustrated viewer noted: 'There's clearly a serious nationwide problem with #SkyTV this evening but Sky have nothing about it on their website, X, Facebook or anywhere else. Very poor customercare.'

Some users suggested performing a 'power cycle' as a temporary fix, but others reported repeated failures. One customer remarked: 'Sort of reassuring to know it wasn't just me.' Sky has yet to announce a formal compensation scheme.
