In an increasingly digital age, a stable internet connection is essential for work, streaming, and smart home devices. However, many households experience slow speeds due to poor router placement, according to an expert.
Alan, an expert at Increditools, explains that placing a router behind furniture or inside cabinets can significantly hinder Wi-Fi performance. He also notes that metal objects and electrical wiring can cause signal reflection and attenuation, further degrading performance.
Additionally, devices like microwaves and TVs emit electromagnetic interference (EMI), which can disrupt Wi-Fi signals. The expert advises against tucking the router into a corner, as routers radiate signals outward in all directions.
For optimal performance, Alan recommends centralising the router and placing it on a high shelf to reduce interference. If issues persist, using a Wi-Fi extender or mesh system can help amplify and extend coverage throughout the home.
“By strategically positioning your Wi-Fi router and minimising interference, you can ensure optimal signal strength and coverage for all your devices,” Alan said.
