Sky Launches Multi-Gigabit Broadband with Speeds Up to 5Gbps

Sky has announced a major upgrade to its broadband services, offering speeds of up to 5Gbps through new Full Fibre Gigafast+ packages. The rollout, delivered via CityFibre’s network, promises to be the fastest broadband from any major UK provider, with downloads of a full HD movie taking just five seconds.

The two new plans are Full Fibre 2.5 Gigafast+ and Full Fibre 5 Gigafast+. Subscribers will also receive a new Gigafast+ router featuring WiFi 7 technology, designed to handle multiple devices simultaneously without slowing down.

However, availability is limited to around 4.5 million homes connected to CityFibre cables. Sky advises customers to check their postcode to see if they can access the service. Additionally, the speeds may be overkill for average users; a household with light streaming needs can manage with standard 70Mbps connections.

Pricing starts at £70 per month for the 2.5Gbps plan and rises to £80 per month for the top-tier 5Gbps option. Sky’s Chief Consumer Officer, Sophia Ahmad, said the company is setting a new standard in UK broadband, offering more choice and cutting-edge technology.

CityFibre CEO Greg Mesch highlighted the partnership’s role in bringing faster, more reliable connectivity to millions of homes, fostering a competitive market. The upgrade is expected to be available soon for eligible customers.
