Vodafone Reveals Cause Behind Major UK Network Outage

Vodafone has disclosed the cause of a significant network outage that affected tens of thousands of customers across the UK, particularly in London, on Monday afternoon. The disruption began around 2pm and lasted for several hours, leaving many users unable to access the internet on both home broadband and mobile services.

According to monitoring website DownDetector, over 100,000 customers reported issues, with the majority highlighting problems with their home internet service. Mobile data services were also impacted, affecting users of Vodafone's 4G and 5G networks.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the telecoms giant apologised for the inconvenience, attributing the outage to a “non-malicious software issue” with one of its vendor partners. A spokeswoman confirmed that the problem had been resolved and the network had fully recovered.

Vodafone, which serves over 18 million UK customers including approximately 700,000 home broadband users, also noted that users of its subsidiary Voxi experienced similar issues. The company did not disclose the name of the vendor partner involved.
