UK Heatwave: Temperatures Could Hit 30C This Bank Holiday Weekend
UK Heatwave: 30C Expected This Bank Holiday Weekend

The United Kingdom is bracing for a sizzling bank holiday weekend as meteorologists predict temperatures could climb as high as 30 degrees Celsius in certain regions. After a period of unstable conditions and cooler-than-average temperatures, the sun is poised to deliver ample warmth just in time for the extended break.

Thursday's Warm-Up

According to the Met Office, residents across England can anticipate temperatures reaching the low 20s from Thursday, with central and eastern areas potentially seeing the mercury approach 30C. This unseasonably warm spell means England is likely to experience a heatwave, defined as at least 28C for five consecutive days. However, forecasters caution that some rain may accompany the warmer, more humid air, particularly in northern England and Scotland.

On Thursday, highs of 23C are expected in the southeast of England, with 20C widely across the Midlands and north. Coastal areas will be slightly cooler, but most southern regions will enjoy warm and dry weather, the Met Office reports. Northern and western areas are more likely to encounter patchy rain and cloudy, breezy conditions.

Friday's Rising Temperatures

Forecasters indicate that the weather will turn increasingly warm and humid on Friday. Temperatures are projected to reach 27C in Greater London and Cambridgeshire, with between 22C and 25C across large swathes of England. The southeast can expect strong sunshine, while the north will experience cloudier skies.

Bank Holiday Weekend Outlook

As the bank holiday weekend begins, much of the country will see sunny skies and warm conditions. Forecasters predict highs of 29C in the southeast of England, with the mercury climbing to between 20C and 25C across the rest of England.

Sunday is expected to bring even hotter weather, with temperatures soaring to 31C in Greater London and around 26C elsewhere in the southeast. Highs of between 21C and 27C are forecast across the rest of the UK, with clear sunshine lasting for most of the day.

Bank Holiday Monday will deliver beautiful, warm conditions for much of England, with highs of 29C in the south and slightly cooler temperatures in the north. The sunny weather will persist into Tuesday, with a 27C day forecast for London.

Next Week's Forecast

Forecasters say conditions will remain warm and sunny for much of the following week. “Through the following week, high pressure is expected to broadly remain in place for much of the UK, and fine weather is likely to continue for most of the country,” the Met Office stated. “There may be occasions where low pressure to the north may bring some brief spells of rain across northern parts, but in general fair weather will dominate. Temperatures are expected to be above normal, feeling very warm at times with light winds.”
