German Shepherd Puppy Rips Patio Door Off Hinges in Walk-Time Excitement
German Shepherd Puppy Tears Door Off Hinges Before Walk

A nine-month-old German Shepherd puppy demonstrated extraordinary strength and impatience when he managed to tear an entire patio door from its hinges in a fit of walk-time excitement. The incident occurred at a home in Swansea, South Wales, where owner Gillian Hearne turned her back momentarily to fetch the dog's lead.

The Moment of Canine Carnage

Miss Hearne described the scene as resembling a 'bull in a china shop' as Koda, unable to contain his enthusiasm for an upcoming walk, forcefully pushed against the French door. The door, which had apparently been weakened by repeated previous impacts, detached completely from its hinges and fell to the ground.

'I'd just finished work and was getting ready to take him up to the field for a walk,' Miss Hearne explained. 'I turned my back to pick up his lead, and saw he'd knocked the French door off its hinges to get into the garden.'

Owner's Philosophical Response

Rather than becoming angry, the pragmatic owner reached for her phone to document the destruction. In the video, she can be heard joking: 'Get a f***ing German Shepherd they said. It will be fun. That's my f***ing door that he has just jumped off. He's literally pushed the f***ing door off the hinges.'

She added philosophically: 'I just turned around, looked at it, and said 'Oh right, ok, we don't need the door do we?' There's no point getting angry and shouting, he's literally nine months old, he's a puppy and doesn't know.'

A Pattern of Impatient Behavior

Miss Hearne revealed this wasn't an isolated incident but rather the culmination of persistent behavior. 'He's been doing it since we had him, really,' she said. 'He likes to push the door open because he's impatient and I hadn't shut it properly. He hit it, but because he's done it so much, he's obviously damaged the hinges without me knowing, and it had just popped off.'

Undeterred by the destruction he had caused, Koda continued to bounce playfully around the garden amid the debris of the fallen door, seemingly unaware of the chaos he had created.

Training and Temperament Considerations

The mischievous puppy does attend training classes, but as Miss Hearne notes, he remains 'in the process' of learning proper behavior. 'When he saw the lead, he got so excited, that he was like a bull in a china shop,' she described.

Despite the property damage, Miss Hearne maintains perspective about her energetic companion. 'He's a puppy, he's a German Shepherd, and they are loyal, well-behaved animals. They do take a lot of training and exercise, and you've just got to be patient when you're training them, really.'

Repair and Reflection

The owner has arranged for a local company to repair the damaged door, with the repair technician reportedly expressing surprise at the canine-caused destruction. 'I told the guy what happened, and he said 'I've never had a dog do this to a door before',' Miss Hearne shared. 'It's just one of those unfortunate events.'

Despite the significant repair bill and temporary loss of a functional door, Miss Hearne's affection for her rambunctious pet remains undiminished. 'Even though he does cause carnage, I'd never get rid of him, ever,' she affirmed, highlighting the enduring bond between owner and pet even in the face of substantial property damage.
