Good Morning Britain viewers expressed frustration over the ITV show's extensive coverage of the third heatwave of the year, with many taking to social media to demand a break from the weather updates.
Viewers Voice Displeasure
During the July 8, 2026 broadcast, presenters Ed Balls and Susanna Reid delivered the latest headlines before weather presenter Laura Tobin provided a detailed forecast. Tobin stated: "Heat wave three is building! It's spreading further North as we head through the next few days, with temperatures climbing and building day by day. Not just by day, but by night as well." She noted that this heatwave is expected to last longer than previous ones, according to reports from the Mirror.
Ranvir Singh then announced: "Amber heat health alerts across large parts of England come into effect from nine o'clock this morning. Retail experts have told Good Morning Britain that they are expecting a spike in sales, after they say recent figures show the May heatwave drove a surge in outdoor and summer goods and food sales." Singh also warned that conditions could persist for up to two weeks before crossing to Nick Dixon live from Selsey, who added: "It is going to go on a little bit longer, potentially into early next week... It will be just a fraction cooler but still potentially 35-36 Celsius over the next 48 hours."
Social Media Backlash
Viewers quickly took to social media to criticize the amount of airtime dedicated to the weather. One user commented: "Do you think we are all stupid? It's 10 days of sunshine, give us a break, and those temperatures you keep banging on about are down south." Another wrote: "Stop this heatwave after heatwave nonsense. We are having a lovely, hot summer. Thousands are getting away to lay in this heat. Stop weaponising our lovely weather at the moment."
A third viewer questioned: "Why do we have a warning to let us know that it is going to be a nice summer day." Another posted: "Just tell us what the weather is going to like today. #gmb." One disgruntled viewer vented: "#GMB We have not had a heatwave all this year. It's been a dismal summer. When out the last week or so I have had a coat on. Hopefully we will have a decent day today but there's no sign of the sun yet. When weather people talk of the UK they mean England."
