British Teenager Dies in Balcony Fall at Magaluf Resort

An 18-year-old British tourist has died after falling 70ft (21m) from a balcony at the Eden Roc apartment complex in Magaluf, Mallorca. Thomas Channon, from Rhoose near Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, was celebrating the end of his A-levels at the Spanish party resort.

Spanish police believe Mr Channon wandered into the complex after losing his friends at around 04:00 local time on Thursday. He was staying at the nearby Universal Hotel Florida. The Foreign Office confirmed it is assisting the family and is in contact with Spanish authorities.

Mr Channon is the third British tourist to die at the Eden Roc complex this year. In June, 20-year-old Tom Hughes from Wrexham died after falling about 65ft (20m), and in April, Scottish teenager Natalie Cormack, 19, fell from the seventh floor while trying to climb into her apartment.

A mother of one of the teenagers on holiday with Mr Channon criticised the low wall at the site, describing it as 'about knee height' and noting that trees and bushes beyond give a false impression of a garden. 'Three kids dying here this year is just unbelievable. We're furious,' she said.

The Foreign Office has previously warned British holidaymakers about balcony risks abroad, urging them to 'look out for friends and family and avoid doing anything that might cost a life.'
