The unsettled weather looks set to continue as a widespread rain system is on track to cover large parts of the nation on Friday. Met Office weather maps show that 20 counties across the country will receive a soaking on Friday, June 12, with the rain showing no mercy. The forecaster is warning there will be “patchy rain in the west on Friday” with temperatures remaining “below average overall”.
Rain Timings and Affected Areas
Met Office weather maps indicate that rain will spread across much of the country from Friday morning onwards. At 9:30 AM, most of the rain will be concentrated in Wales, South West England, and the Manchester area. Almost all of Wales is expected to see heavy rainfall, with only the far west and northern areas likely to remain largely dry. Cornwall is also forecast to see a hammering, whilst parts of the Manchester area are forecast to experience 2mm of rain every hour.
Fast forward three hours to 12:30 PM, and the rain will have moved to cover swathes of East Anglia. West Sussex and Hampshire could also see a hammering. The rain will have eased over Cornwall but will instead have moved into Devon. Although still heavy in Wales, it will have begun to ease there as well. Heavy rain will persist in the Manchester area with 1-2mm of rain forecast. In Scotland, the Highlands and Argyll and Bute will see patchy rain.
Improvement Expected by Sunday
The weather is expected to improve towards the end of this week. By Sunday, some parts of the south may reach 26 to 28 degrees Celsius. Deputy Chief Meteorologist David Oliver said: “Over this weekend, the weather will become drier and more settled as high pressure begins to build. It will turn warmer with temperatures above average for many.”
By 5:30 PM, the band of rain will have moved to cover large swathes of Scotland, with 4mm of rain forecast in the worst-hit areas.
