Swansea City have confirmed the departure of Ethan Galbraith after the midfielder completed his big-money move to Championship rivals Stoke City. However, WalesOnline understands Galbraith's representatives rejected the club's opening offer, feeling it fell well short of reflecting his importance to the first team, and no breakthrough was made in subsequent negotiations. With Galbraith entering the final two years of his contract—albeit with the club holding the option of a further 12 months—Swansea ultimately opted to cash in rather than risk seeing his value diminish.

The sale represents another significant success for the club's player trading model, having signed Galbraith for just £1.6 million plus add-ons from Leyton Orient last summer before selling him for a fee exceeding £10 million just one year later. Nevertheless, his departure will come as a major blow to Matos, who had viewed the former Manchester United academy player as a cornerstone of his plans for the upcoming Championship campaign.
