Rangers Sign Luca Rankin, Son of Airdrie Boss, to Pro Deal

Rangers have completed the signing of 16-year-old midfielder Luca Rankin, the son of Airdrieonians manager John Rankin, to his first professional contract. The Ibrox club fought off significant competition from other clubs to secure the promising talent.

Contract Details and Background

Luca Rankin, who turned 16 just days ago, has committed to Rangers until summer 2029. The young midfielder is the son of former Dundee United, Hibernian, and Clyde midfielder John Rankin, who currently manages Airdrieonians. Luca has been a key part of Rangers' academy setup, helping both the under-19 and under-17 sides win league titles last season.

Academy Director's Comments

Interim Head of Academy, David McCallum, expressed delight at the signing. “We are thrilled that Luca has signed his first professional contract at the club,” McCallum told the club website. “The interest in Luca from elsewhere has been well-documented, as has been the case for several of our 2010-born age group this year, but he believes in the opportunities that exist here, and his decision reflects the clear pathway we provide for young players.”
