Tottenham Hotspur have executed significant business in the transfer market this summer, leaving rivals trailing under manager Roberto De Zerbi. The club, which battled relegation over the past two campaigns, is assembling a squad to compete across multiple competitions.
Following Spurs' survival last term, De Zerbi said: "From tonight, we have to start to organise and to build a new team." He appears to be making good on that pledge.
Defensive Reinforcements
Defensively, Spurs have secured Jan Paul Van Hecke from Brighton for £52m. They have also brought in veteran Liverpool star Andy Robertson and Bournemouth's Argentinian centre-back Marcos Senesi, providing a solid and seasoned defensive line.
Midfield Additions
In midfield, West Ham United's Mateus Fernandes has joined the overhaul, while Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali appears poised to make the switch. The club's determination in negotiating a deal for Tonali demonstrates their credentials to compete with Arsenal for top targets.
Goalkeeping Options
Antonin Kinsky merits an opportunity to establish himself as the undisputed No.1 after a string of composed displays last term. He has recently penned fresh terms, while Guglielmo Vicario could be heading for the exit. Spurs might pursue Manchester City's James Trafford, 23, who has found himself relegated to understudy behind Gianluigi Donnarumma at the Etihad. Martin Dubravka, 37, who arrived from Burnley this summer, will provide invaluable experience from the substitutes' bench.
Attacking Statement
It is in attack where Spurs could deliver a significant statement, with the club reportedly holding a three-man shortlist to improve upon Richarlison and Dominic Solanke. According to The Independent, Bournemouth's Eli Junior Kroupi seems to be the frontrunner to fit into De Zerbi's forward line, though could set them back approximately £80m. The 20-year-old is understood to be coveted by Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.
AC Milan star Rafael Leao's name has reportedly been mentioned as a target. According to reports from Italy, Milan have set an asking price of approximately £55m for the 27-year-old winger. Informal talks with Milan are understood to have occurred, though no formal negotiations have yet commenced.
Finally, Manchester City winger Savinho, whom Spurs pursued last year, could arrive. The Brazilian, who netted once in 24 Premier League outings last season, would reportedly command a fee of around £60m.
Potential Spending Spree
Landing all three of Kroupi, Leao and Savinho appears improbable, but not impossible given Spurs' activity thus far this summer. Even capturing two of the trio would mark significant progress. If Spurs were to bring in Trafford and two of Kroupi, Leao and Savinho to complement their already formidable squad, they could be looking at spending approximately £350m this transfer window. The push to finally transform the club's fortunes is underway.
