Chancellor Rachel Reeves and the Labour Government have passed a ruling that will see 14 UK theme parks slash their prices this summer. The move marks the launch of the Great British Summer Savings scheme, aimed at helping families during the school holidays. Discounts on tickets, meals, and activities are expected across July and August.
Price Cuts Across Major Attractions
The temporary VAT reduction applies to a wide range of family-oriented activities. Reeves announced earlier this week: "I know the cost of living is a number one concern for families, and it can be even harder over the summer holidays when kids want to do things and money is tight. So we’re making it that bit easier for families to make memories together and enjoy the little treats - while giving a boost to businesses across the UK."
Speaking to the BBC, Reeves acknowledged the "juggling act" parents face between work and entertaining children, adding that the cut aims to "help people make those precious memories during the summer holidays, but not having to fork out too much for it."
List of 14 Theme Parks Reducing Prices
The following parks are confirmed to participate in the scheme:
- Wiltshire Safari Park
- Alton Towers Resort
- Chessington World of Adventures Resort
- LEGOLAND Windsor Resort
- Thorpe Park
- West Midlands Safari Park
- Peppa Pig World
- Crealy Theme Park
- Gulliver's Theme Park Resorts

- Paultons Park
- Butlin's Bognor Regis
- Butlin's Skegness
- Butlin's Minehead
Wider Discounts on Family Activities
Beyond theme parks, the VAT cut also applies to children's menu meals in restaurants, children's and family tickets for cinemas, theatres, concerts, shows, and exhibitions. Additional attractions such as fairs, museums, zoos, soft play centres, circuses, adventure parks, nature reserves, wildlife parks, and observation attractions are also eligible for discounted family tickets.
A Butlin’s spokesperson commented: "We’re pleased to support the Great British Summer Savings initiative by passing on the temporary VAT reduction where eligible. Families visiting our resorts will enjoy savings on Day Visits and children’s meals across a range of our dining venues during the campaign period."
Impact on Families
The scheme is designed to ease the financial pressure on households during the summer break. With inflation still a concern for many, the reduced prices aim to make days out more affordable. The government expects the initiative to boost visitor numbers at attractions while providing tangible relief for parents.
