Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl issued a request to the Anfield Stadium crowd on June 25, 2026, and they did not let him down. The American band headlined the home of Liverpool FC for the first time in their history, playing the first of two shows.
Grohl's Request and Crowd Response
As the band played the opening of These Days, Dave Grohl told the Liverpool crowd, 'We'd be here all night,' which prompted cheers. He then asked, 'You don't want to be here all night, do you?' The crowd responded with a huge cheer and shouts of 'Yes.' Grohl replied, 'We'll see what we can do,' before requesting that they 'sing along with them.'
Red Smoke and Opening Hits
Earlier in the night, in an arguable nod to the Reds, red smoke poured out into the stadium as fans applauded and cheered during the first minutes of the show. Grohl said, 'You think it's hot now, m************, it's going to get hot. Are you ready?' The Foo Fighters then performed their opening song, All My Life, followed by The Pretender and Times Like These. According to previous setlists from their Take Cover Tour, fans could expect more of the band's biggest hits.
Weather and First-Time Performance
The ECHO reported that fans were queuing outside Anfield in soaring temperatures, with an amber weather warning issued for Merseyside as temperatures were predicted to reach 35°C. This was the first time the band performed at Anfield Stadium together. However, Grohl previously joined Sir Paul McCartney on stage at Anfield in 2008 during Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture, performing versions of Band On The Run and Back In The USSR.
Foo Fighters' Background
The band was formed by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl after Kurt Cobain’s death in 1994. Initially conceived as a solo recording project, Foo Fighters soon became a full band when Grohl brought in additional musicians ahead of their first live performances in 1995. Over the past three decades, the group has become one of the world's most successful rock acts, with hit songs such as My Hero, All My Life, and Best of You.
