Aldi's Budget Beauty Range Draws Comparisons to Luxury Skincare Brand
Beauty enthusiasts across Australia are eagerly anticipating the return of Aldi's Lacura Luminosity skincare range, with many noting its remarkable similarity to the premium Korean brand Glow Recipe. The budget supermarket chain will reintroduce the glow-enhancing collection to its famous middle aisle from February 28, offering eight radiant skincare products at remarkably affordable prices.
Affordable Alternatives to Premium Products
The Lacura Luminosity range includes serums, moisturisers, lip balms and cleansers, with prices starting at just $7.99 and nothing exceeding $10. While the rock-bottom prices are impressive enough, it's the range's striking resemblance to the much-loved, expensive Glow Recipe skincare line that has truly captured the attention of online beauty communities.
Queensland shopper Anastasia was among the first to highlight the new Aldi range as a potential affordable alternative to the hugely popular Glow Recipe brand. In a TikTok video that quickly gained traction, Anastasia pointed out the similarities while declaring herself a fan of the high-end beauty products.
'This looks oddly familiar to the Glow Recipe Tinted Hue Drops,' Anastasia observed in her review video, expressing genuine curiosity about the Aldi version's quality and performance.Detailed Product Comparisons Emerge
Anastasia selected two products from the Lacura range for her trial: the Luminosity Highlighting Serum Tinted 40ml bottle priced at $9.99, and the Luminosity Hydrating Night Moisturiser 60ml jar also at $9.99. These immediately drew comparisons to Glow Recipe's cult classic Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops, which retail for $35 for just 15ml at Mecca.
Starting with the tinted serum, Anastasia couldn't help but exclaim that the 'packaging looks so similar' to the Glow Recipe equivalent. After applying the product to the back of her hand and along her cheekbones, she noted its bronze-y colour and seamless blending properties.
'It definitely blends into the skin seamlessly. It feels nice,' she observed. 'It's definitely giving a little shine to the skin.'
Texture and Formulation Similarities
When Anastasia tried the Lacura Luminosity night moisturiser, she discovered further parallels with the premium brand. Many of Glow Recipe's signature watermelon-based skin hydrating products feature a distinct jelly-like texture, and the Aldi version similarly contained watermelon extract with a slippery formulation.
'This looks so watery and gel-like,' Anastasia remarked as she applied the Aldi product. 'And it smells like watermelon candy.'
Her overall verdict was surprisingly positive: 'My first impression of both these products is honestly not bad. And they're super affordable.'
Range Details and Historical Popularity
The Lacura Luminosity range has previously appeared in Aldi's Special Buys middle aisle for limited periods, historically selling out quickly due to high demand. Alongside the products Anastasia trialled, the complete range includes:
- Lacura Luminosity Highlighting Serum 40ml, $9.99
- Lacura Luminosity Hydrating Gel Moisturiser 60ml, $9.99
- Lacura Luminosity Purifying Cleansing Balm 100ml, $7.99
- Lacura Luminosity Nourishing Cleanser 150ml, $7.99
- Watermelon Lip Balm 15ml, $7.99
- Plum Lip Balm 15ml, $7.99
Cleansing Product Parallels
Savvy beauty fans have noted that the cleansing products in particular closely resemble Glow Recipe's best-sellers. The Lacura Luminosity Purifying Cleansing Balm comes in a bright orange tub containing papaya extract and enzymes, mirroring Glow Recipe's Papaya Sorbet Enzyme Cleansing Balm.
Meanwhile, the Lacura Luminosity Nourishing Cleanser follows the formulation of Glow Recipe's Ceramide Moisture Barrier Cleanser, which retails for $48. The Aldi version similarly features avocado extracts and ceramides but at just $7.99 for 150ml.
Growing Social Media Buzz
Aspiring make-up artist Phoebe was another Australian shopper to discover Aldi's new beauty range, sharing her excitement on her @makeupbyphoebe24 TikTok account.
'Aldi now sells Glow Recipe dupes!' Phoebe declared enthusiastically in her video. 'They were $10 each! I need to tell you to run - not walk - to Aldi and try these out immediately.'
The growing social media conversation highlights how budget-conscious beauty enthusiasts are increasingly seeking affordable alternatives to premium products without compromising on quality or performance expectations.
