UK Safety Alert: Children's Foaming Soap Poses Burn Risk from Flammable Gases
Children's Soap Safety Alert Over Flammable Gas Burn Risk

UK Government Issues Urgent Safety Alert for Children's Foaming Soap

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued a critical safety warning concerning specific batches of a popular children's toiletry product, citing significant burn risks associated with its use. The alert, released on Friday, February 27, 2026, has led to the immediate suspension of sales for the affected items while further investigations are conducted.

Flammable Gases Identified in Product Formulation

The Kids Stuff Crazy Foaming Soap, available in 200ml bottles in colours including pink, blue, and purple, has been found to contain butane, isobutane, and propane—highly flammable gases. According to the government's risk assessment, if the foam is dispensed near an open flame or other ignition source, it may ignite, potentially causing severe burns to users, particularly children.

The affected batch codes are as follows:

  • 26112E 5 (blue)
  • 26112E 4 (blue)
  • 25948E 3 (blue)
  • 25651E (purple)

Consumers are strongly urged to check if they possess any of these batches and to contact their retailer immediately if identified. The OPSS has emphasised that sales remain halted until comprehensive testing is completed.

Independent Testing Reveals Alarming Results

BBC's Watchdog programme conducted laboratory tests on the foam, revealing that it "burned" for 15 seconds when exposed to a flame. Cosmetic scientist Colin Sanders expressed serious concerns about the combustible ingredients, advocating for a reformulation of the product to enhance safety standards.

In response, the brand stated that the product already includes clear and prominent warnings, labelling it as an "extremely flammable aerosol" and advising against use near naked flames or ignition sources. Additional safety measures, such as cap stickers, have been implemented to reinforce safe usage guidelines.

Brand Commitment to Safety and Reformulation

A spokesperson for Kids Stuff confirmed that the company is cooperating fully with the OPSS investigation and emphasised that product safety is a top priority. They highlighted that the soap is intended for use under adult supervision and in accordance with pack instructions, particularly during bath time.

The brand announced: "We are progressing an updated formulation of Crazy Foaming Soap, which we expect to release later this year." This move aims to address the safety concerns while maintaining the product's appeal to children.

Parents and caregivers are reminded to always supervise children during bath time and ensure that open flames or heated instruments are not present in the environment. The temporary suspension notice will remain in effect until the OPSS completes its review and approves any necessary changes to the product.
