America's donut scene is getting a sugary spotlight this week as DoorDash rolls out a new ranking of the nation's top shops ahead of National Donut Day on June 5.
Inaugural Donut Day Dozens List
The delivery platform Tuesday unveiled its inaugural Donut Day Dozens, a list of 100 of the highest-rated small and mid-sized donut shops available through its app. The selections span 86 cities in 25 states and are drawn from DoorDash data collected between April 2025 and April 2026. The list zeroes in on independent and regional shops with fewer than 10 locations. To make the cut, the businesses must have at least 1,000 lifetime reviews and ranked among the platform's highest-rated donut spots over the period, according to the company.
California Dominates the Rankings
California clearly dominates this list, with 39 shops, nearly twice as many as Texas, with 20 shops, and more than 10 times as many as any other state. Washington trails far behind in third place with just four shops.
National Promotion with Krispy Kreme
Alongside the local rankings, DoorDash is teaming up with Krispy Kreme on a limited-time national promotion offering customers up to $7 off qualifying orders placed through the app from June 4 through June 18.

History of National Donut Day
National Donut Day, observed annually on the first Friday in June, traces its origins to a 1938 Salvation Army initiative honoring volunteers who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. It has since grown into a major promotional event for local and national bakeries and chains nationwide, including previous celebratory deals at Dunkin', Duck Donuts and even convenience stores such as 7-Eleven and Speedway.
