Urgent Recall for SPAR Chicken Products Over Listeria Fears
Urgent Recall for SPAR Chicken Products Over Listeria Fears

SPAR has issued an urgent recall for three chicken products after discovering the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious illness. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has alerted consumers to the potential risk.

The affected items are from the SPAR Enjoy Local Cooked Chicken range: Chicken Pieces (150g), Chicken Slices (150g), and Chicken Fillets (300g). All products carry the batch code 5126 and have a use-by date of 21 May 2025.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, which typically presents with flu-like symptoms such as high temperature, muscle aches, and sickness. In rare cases, it can lead to severe complications like meningitis. Vulnerable groups include those over 65, pregnant women, infants under one month, and people with weakened immune systems.
