A mother who ordered a toy for her son on the online marketplace Vinted was left floored when the item arrived in a box originally used for the antidepressant Sertraline, commonly known by the brand name Zoloft. The user, identified only as 'Ells', shared photos of the packaging on X, prompting a wave of reactions.
Viral Post Sparks Amusement and Disbelief
Ells posted two images showing the toy inside a Sertraline box, a prescription medication used to treat depression and anxiety by increasing serotonin levels. The post quickly amassed over 1.2 million views. "Sorry but can I share how I received a Vinted parcel today (toy for my son)," she wrote.
Commenters found the situation hilarious. One exclaimed: "Sorry, but this is hilarious." Another added: "Not going to lie, I’ve done this with one of them big tic tac boxes before." A third chimed in: "This is the sort of stunt I'd pull." While a fourth noted: "I’m not utilising my full Vinted potential."
Confirmation of Authenticity
After some users questioned whether the post was staged, Ells confirmed it was genuine. "The pharmacist in me appreciates that they took the label off at least," she added, noting that the sender had removed the prescription label before shipping.
Vinted's Growing Popularity
Vinted, a platform for buying and selling second-hand items, has 17 million active users in the UK alone, nearly doubling its numbers in recent years. It now trails only Next and Primark in UK customer base among major retailers. The incident highlights the sometimes unconventional packaging used by sellers on the platform.
