My Chemical Romance will perform three concerts at London's Wembley Stadium this week, playing to a cumulative 270,000 fans as part of their Long Live the Black Parade Tour. The band—comprising Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Frank Iero and Ray Toro—have transformed each show into an elaborate theatrical production centered on the fictional nation of Draag.
The Fictional World of Draag
Throughout the tour, My Chemical Romance perform as The National Band for Draag, acting out a story for the Grand Immortal Dictator, the country's authoritarian ruler. The band adopts the guise of The Ministry of Complimentary Reconditioning (MCR), and their logo appears above the grandstand in Keposhka, written in Draag's fictional language created by comic book designer and typographer Nate Piekos.
Before each show, fans receive signs reading YEA and NAY, which Gerard uses to conduct votes on whether to execute certain cast and crew members. If the vote is positive, various bloody execution methods are carried out on stage, with lots of gore and excitement. Gerard has described knives and weapons as "tools for our treasonous needs."
Rules and Propaganda
During performances, rules are projected on large screens, translated by fans as commands such as: "No weapons, dental tools or otherwise," "All feet must be covered from sight with foot coverings of some kind," and "Run slowly (when possible)." Fictional propaganda about nuclear fallout and impending threat is also shown, varying from night to night.
The Clown and the Bomb
Most evenings, the first portion of the show ends when a clown named Pierrot arrives on stage wearing a bomb vest. He stabs Gerard with a knife, prompting a comical amount of blood to spray across the stage. The bomb then explodes, transitioning the band into the second part of the concert, where they play a seemingly random string of songs from their repertoire before concluding.
Ticket Information
Tickets for the Wembley shows are still available. Fans can purchase VIP and hospitality seats from Seat Unique starting at £30, or official resale tickets via Ticketmaster. Resale markets such as viagogo and StubHub also offer tickets from around £20.
