Millions of Nationwide members are hoping for a free £100 payment next month. This comes after the world's largest building society handed out what it calls "Fairer Share Payments" in 2023, 2024, and again in 2025. Each year, members needed to satisfy particular eligibility requirements by a specified date.
According to Nationwide's website: "If you bank as well as save or have a mortgage with us, you could benefit from our Fairer Share Payments. Some members have received £300 in Fairer Share Payments since 2023. It's our intention to make a payment every year, but this will depend on how we perform financially. We may change the amount and the eligibility criteria based on that performance."
When will Nationwide reveal any Fairer Share Payments for 2026?
When questioned about when it would confirm whether another payment would be issued this year, a Nationwide spokesperson said: "Nationwide aims to make a Fairer Share payment again this year, subject to financial performance and Board approval. Any announcement, including eligibility criteria and amount, will be made on May 21 at Nationwide's end-of-year financial results."
Who is most likely to qualify for a Fairer Share Payment - if confirmed?
While no criteria has been announced for any 2026 Fairer Share Payments, examining previous years might offer some clues. In the past, members were required to have maintained an active current account on March 31, and held at least £100 in a separate savings account - or a mortgage balance.
