Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a revised offer for Brighton & Hove Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke after their initial bid was turned down, according to sources close to the negotiations.
Brighton's Valuation and Contract Situation
The Seagulls value the 25-year-old Netherlands international at approximately £70 million, though his current contract has just one year remaining. This discrepancy could influence the final transfer fee.
Previous Interest from Liverpool and Chelsea
Liverpool held discussions last summer over a potential £35 million move for van Hecke while simultaneously negotiating with Crystal Palace for Marc Guehi. The Reds retain an interest but have shifted their priorities elsewhere, particularly after losing Ibrahima Konate, who is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer. Chelsea have also expressed interest in the defender.
Connection with Roberto De Zerbi
Van Hecke is well-acquainted with Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi, having played under him during his tenure at Brighton. This relationship is expected to attract the defender to a move to north London, though Spurs must increase their offer to meet Brighton's valuation.
Tottenham's Transfer Activities
Tottenham have already secured centre-back Marco Senesi from Bournemouth on a free transfer, with the expectation that Cristian Romero will be sold. Additionally, Andy Robertson has joined from Liverpool, and the club is working on a deal for Manchester City winger Savinho, as reported by Daily Mail Sport last month.
Van Hecke started for the Netherlands in their friendly against Algeria in Rotterdam last night, which ended in a 1-0 defeat.
