Limescale buildup in bathrooms can be stubborn and unsightly, often requiring significant effort to remove. Mia O'Hare, a senior spare time reporter, put two popular limescale removers to the test on her bathroom taps to determine which product delivers better results.
Products Tested and Method
O'Hare selected Viakal Classic Limescale Remover Spray, which brands itself as the number one against limescale, and Flash Deep Clean & Hygiene Anti-Bac Bathroom Cleaner, which claims to remove up to 100% of bathroom grease and limescale. The Viakal spray was purchased from Asda for £2.65, while the Flash cleaner cost £2.44 from the same retailer. Both products come in similar spray bottles. To ensure a fair comparison, O'Hare applied one spray to each tap following the manufacturers' instructions.
Viakal Results
According to the Viakal instructions, the spray should be left on the affected area for three minutes, the maximum recommended time. After three minutes, O'Hare rinsed the tap and scrubbed with a damp sponge. She observed that large clumps of limescale remained on the tap even after the maximum wait time. While some limescale was scrubbed away, other parts proved too stubborn to remove without a second application. O'Hare did not reapply to maintain fairness in the test.
Flash Results
The Flash cleaner required a five-minute wait time. O'Hare noted that the spray coverage seemed less thorough compared to Viakal. However, after five minutes, she wiped and rinsed the area and was surprised to find that most of the limescale had lifted. After scrubbing with a sponge, the tap looked significantly cleaner.
Verdict
Both products were simple and easy to use, with results achieved in minutes. However, O'Hare declared Flash the winner as it removed much more limescale in a single application compared to Viakal. The Flash solution did not require a second attempt, and it was slightly cheaper at £2.44 versus £2.65. Additionally, Flash offers the benefit of removing soap scum and killing 99.9% of bacteria, providing extra value. For O'Hare, the superior performance and cost savings make Flash the clear choice for future limescale removal.
