Richard Osman and Ingrid Oliver Purchase £9 Million Thames-Side Home with Netflix Earnings
Osman and Oliver Buy £9M Home with Netflix Money

Television presenter and author Richard Osman, alongside his wife, actress Ingrid Oliver, have secured a luxurious £9 million residence in London, funded significantly by the successful Netflix adaptation of Osman's bestselling novel, The Thursday Murder Club.

A Prestigious Property Acquisition

The couple has invested in a four-storey, five-bedroom home in the desirable Richmond area, marking a substantial upgrade from their previous £1 million property in Chiswick. While the exterior retains a classic, somewhat traditional appearance, the interior boasts a comprehensive modern renovation.

This includes a state-of-the-art kitchen and dining space, complete with expansive glass doors that open directly onto the garden, blending indoor and outdoor living seamlessly.

Protected Thames Views and Celebrity Neighbours

A standout feature of their new home is its breathtaking views of the River Thames, which are uniquely safeguarded by a 1902 Act of Parliament. This legislation was enacted specifically to prevent development on the opposite riverbank, ensuring the vista remains unobstructed—reportedly the only view in England with such parliamentary protection.

The Richmond street has a notable history of celebrity residents, with past inhabitants said to include rock legends Mick Jagger and Pete Townshend of The Who.

Netflix Success Fuels the Move

The property purchase follows the major cinematic adaptation of Osman's debut novel, The Thursday Murder Club, by streaming giant Netflix. The high-profile film was directed by Chris Columbus, produced by Steven Spielberg, and featured an all-star cast including Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, Celia Imrie, and Ben Kingsley.

Notably, Ingrid Oliver also appeared in the film, portraying Joanna Meadowcroft, the wealthy daughter of Celia Imrie's character, Joyce.

A Modern Love Story

Osman and Oliver, who married in 2022 after meeting the previous year, have shared the charming origin of their relationship. Osman revealed he initially admired Oliver's humour through her social media posts before enlisting a mutual friend, comedian Lou Sanders, to inquire about her availability.

At that time, Oliver was not single, but by 2021, when she appeared as a guest on Osman's show House of Games, circumstances had changed. Oliver later disclosed to the Mail that she had been cautiously navigating personal plans, including IVF treatment, before deciding to pursue the relationship.

Settling into the New Home

The couple, along with their two rescue cats, Lottie and Liesl, are now adjusting to life in their expansive new residence. Osman, who has two children from a previous marriage, had previously hinted at the impending move on his podcast, The Rest Is Entertainment, co-hosted with Marina Hyde.

He confessed to finding transitional periods challenging, stating, "I don't deal well with interregnums, I find it very, very difficult. Until everything is normal again I will be very, very discombobulated."

This significant real estate investment underscores the substantial financial rewards stemming from Osman's literary success and its high-value translation to the screen, facilitating a remarkable upgrade in the couple's living standards in one of London's most picturesque and protected locations.
