A devastating building collapse in Johannesburg has resulted in at least six fatalities, with several individuals trapped and three others missing, emergency services confirmed on Monday. The incident occurred in the southern suburb of Ormonde, where a concrete floor under construction gave way, plummeting onto people below.
Rescue Efforts Underway Amid Structural Risks
Johannesburg Emergency Management Services spokesperson Xolile Khumalo reported from the scene that one person has been successfully rescued so far. However, the ongoing rescue operation faces significant challenges due to the instability of the structure, with parts of the building "caving in," posing grave dangers to emergency personnel.
Public safety official Mgcini Tshwaku stated that the collapse happened in an actively under-construction section of the building. It remains unclear whether all victims were construction workers, adding to the complexity of the situation.

Tshwaku emphasized the priority of extracting all individuals, stating, "We just have to get everyone out."
