Hawaiian Airlines is set to discontinue complimentary meals for Main Cabin passengers on the majority of flights between Hawaii and the continental United States, effective July 1. The airline is introducing a new pre-order dining program, enabling travelers to purchase meals up to 20 hours before departure.
Changes to In-Flight Dining
Starting next month, passengers in the Main Cabin will no longer receive free meals on most routes connecting Hawaii to the U.S. mainland. However, complimentary meals will continue to be offered on flights between Honolulu and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.
New Pre-Order Menu
The airline has partnered with Maui-based chef Sheldon Simeon to create a new menu that highlights local Hawaiian flavors. The offerings will include gluten-free and plant-based options to cater to diverse dietary preferences.
Members of the Huakaʻi by Hawaiian loyalty program, as well as those who enroll by June 24, will receive their first two pre-ordered meals at no cost. This initiative aims to ease the transition for frequent travelers.
The decision marks a significant shift in the airline's service model, aligning with industry trends where carriers increasingly unbundle services to offer more flexible pricing. Passengers are advised to check the new dining options and pricing when booking their flights.
