Aldi Confirms Easter 2026 Store Hours and Closures
Supermarket giant Aldi has officially announced its Easter plans for 2026, confirming temporary store closures and reduced opening hours across England, Scotland, and Wales. The retailer, which operates over 1,070 stores in the UK, will implement shorter trading times during the bank holiday weekend to allow staff time with family.
Easter Weekend Opening Schedule
This year, Easter Sunday falls on April 5, creating a long weekend from Friday, April 3 to Monday, April 6. Aldi stores will be open from 8am to 9pm on Good Friday and Easter Saturday. However, all stores will close completely on Easter Sunday, with bosses stating this is to "give colleagues a chance to enjoy the day with their loved ones."
On Easter Monday, stores will reopen with hours from 8am to 8pm. Customers are advised to check their local store's specific hours online, as some locations may have variations. Rachel Geary, communications director at Aldi UK, emphasized: "Easter is a time for celebration and coming together with family and friends to enjoy great food. At Aldi, we've made it easy for shoppers to pick up everything they need for the occasion at unbeatable value."
Legal Requirements and Regional Differences
The closures follow legal requirements under the Sunday Trading Act, which mandates that shops over 280 square metres in England and Wales must close on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day. These larger stores are normally permitted to open for six consecutive hours between 10am and 6pm on regular Sundays.
In Scotland, different regulations apply, allowing all stores to remain open on Easter Sunday regardless of size. Aldi's expansion continues with approximately 1,086 locations currently operating across Great Britain and plans to reach 1,500 stores in areas not currently served.
Optimal Shopping Times Revealed
Aldi executives have identified four specific hours when shoppers might experience the best conditions in stores. For early risers, the period between 8am and 9am offers quieter aisles, shorter checkout queues, and freshly stocked shelves from morning deliveries.
For those preferring later shopping, the hours between 7pm and 10pm near closing time also provide reduced crowds. Evening shoppers may additionally benefit from red sticker discounts, sometimes offering up to 75% off, as stores reduce prices on perishable items to prevent food waste.
The supermarket's guidance aims to help customers navigate the adjusted schedule while maximizing their shopping experience during the busy holiday period.
