Aldi is giving away thousands of strawberries for free this week at its Wimbledon store to celebrate the tennis championships. The promotion runs from Monday, June 29 to Friday, July 3, 2026, offering shoppers a chance to enjoy the classic Wimbledon treat without cost.
Sales surge expected during tournament
The supermarket sold nearly 1,700 tonnes of strawberries during last year's Wimbledon – equivalent to approximately 4.5 million punnets. This year, Aldi expects to exceed that figure, predicting over 5 million punnets will be sold across the tournament period. The UK consumes up to 168,000 tonnes of strawberries annually, with British-grown production accounting for more than half of sales during peak season.
How to enjoy the free strawberries
Brits have shared their favourite ways to eat the fruit. One online commenter said: "I love strawberries with black pepper and balsamic vinegar. Try it; it’s a revelation!" Another preferred a classic dessert: "I like meringue with mine, proper Eton mess style." A budget-conscious shopper advised: "Wimbledon will be charging a fortune for a few strawberries and a bit of cream! Buy yours from Aldi, keep in a cool bag and enjoy the tennis!"
Competing supermarket offers
Tesco is also offering free strawberries and cream to spectators heading to Wimbledon. Aldi has launched its Nature's Pick British Strawberries at 99p for 227g – more than half the price of M&S's equivalent. Shoppers can also buy Everyday Essentials Wonky Strawberries for £1.19 (227g) or Nature's Pick British Strawberries at £1.99 for 400g.
