Super-Organised Gran Finishes Christmas Shopping in July Every Year
Gran Finishes Christmas Shopping in July Every Year

Anna Andrews, a 54-year-old grandmother from Birmingham, has already completed her Christmas shopping for the year, finishing in July as part of her annual routine. She has been planning ahead for decades to ensure she does not forget anyone in her large family.

Budget and Strategy

Andrews sticks to a strict £800 budget for her three children and four grandchildren. She spreads the cost by buying one or two gifts each month, avoiding a spreadsheet but relying on listening to her family's wishes throughout the year. 'We have a set budget otherwise you could spend more than you need,' she said.

Early Preparations

Her festive preparations begin as early as the Boxing Day sales, where she purchases discounted cards, wrapping paper, and tags. She hides the growing stash around her home, including in bags in her bedroom and an ottoman at the end of her bed. Despite being nearly finished, she refuses to wrap any presents until 1 December to ensure equal gifts for grandchildren and to account for any forgotten recipients.

Benefits of Early Planning

Andrews says being organised allows her to avoid the last-minute shopping rush and focus on family time. 'Christmas is about family, not just presents. I don't think it takes the magic out of Christmas, I just find it more calming,' she explained. If she changes her mind about a gift, she swaps the recipient with another family member or friend.

Health Challenges

Her early planning proved vital after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2022. She had already sorted Christmas that year, but spent much of 2023 undergoing major surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy while off work for nine months. She advises others to 'save a little every week or buy a gift and put it away and you'll be surprised what you have by December.'

Family Reactions

Her friends call her 'so organised' but think she spends too much. Her children appreciate the idea, while her husband jokes that the pile in their room makes her look like a hoarder. The family takes turns hosting a classic Christmas dinner, maintaining tradition.
